The National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) has come under scrutiny after citizens requested clarification from Minister of Justice and Security, Van Weel, on its role and responsibilities. The request for clarification was made during the annual V-100 event, where citizens are invited to ask questions about the year's reports from ministers.

Citizens' Questions

The V-100 event, which has been held annually since 2017, brings together 100 citizens, including entrepreneurs, who have dealings with public service providers. They study the year's reports from ministers and ask questions about the findings. During the latest event, eight groups of citizens asked questions about the NCSC, which is responsible for informing and advising vital service providers within the government about digital threats and incidents.

The citizens' questions focused on the NCSC's primary tasks, including supporting organizations after an incident, the quality of its services, and whether it is adequately equipped to handle its responsibilities. They also asked about the extension of the NCSC's mandate to share information with non-NIS2 registered parties.

NCSC Role and Responsibilities

The NCSC is responsible for analyzing and investigating digital threats and incidents, and providing advice and warnings to the public. Its primary task is to inform and advise vital service providers within the government about digital threats and incidents. The organization also publishes guidelines and warnings for the public.

In total, Minister Van Weel received 16 questions about the NCSC during the V-100 event. The commission for government expenses has asked the minister to respond to the questions before the year's report is treated on June 11.

  • The citizens' questions highlighted the importance of the NCSC's role in supporting organizations after an incident.
  • The quality of the NCSC's services was also a topic of discussion.
  • Citizens asked about the NCSC's preparedness to handle its responsibilities.
  • The extension of the NCSC's mandate to share information with non-NIS2 registered parties was another area of concern.
