Linux Switching Campaign Targets Windows 10 Users

By Netvora Tech News

The Linux desktop environment KDE has launched a campaign to persuade Windows 10 users to switch to Linux. The campaign, dubbed "End Of 10," aims to capitalize on the upcoming end of support for Windows 10, which will leave millions of users vulnerable to security risks and generate e-waste.

On October 14, Microsoft will cease to provide security updates for Windows 10, unless users opt for a paid maintenance contract. According to KDE, this will put 200 to 400 million laptops and computers worldwide at risk of security threats and contribute to e-waste.

The Case Against Windows

KDE claims that Windows 10 is plagued by ads and spyware, which slow down computers, allow companies to spy on users, and increase energy bills. The organization suggests that users upgrade their software, not their computers, and switch to Linux.

"Dit vertraagt je computer, laat bedrijven je bespioneren en zorgt voor een hogere energierekening."

The Benefits of Linux

KDE emphasizes that viruses are almost unknown on Linux, alleviating concerns for users. The organization also claims that Linux is free from hidden processes that track everything users type and upload documents to train AI models.

"KDE is a non-profit organization run by volunteers, not a company. We have no commercial interests. We also have no interest in your personal data and will fiercely help you protect it."

Assistance for the Transition

To help Windows 10 users make the switch, KDE has planned several events where users can receive assistance with installing Linux.

  • These events aim to provide a smooth transition for users, ensuring they can continue to use their familiar applications and software.
  • KDE's Plasma desktop environment is designed to be user-friendly and intuitive, making it an attractive option for those looking to switch from Windows.

The "End Of 10" campaign highlights the importance of software updates and the risks associated with relying on outdated operating systems. As Microsoft prepares to discontinue support for Windows 10, KDE encourages users to consider the benefits of switching to Linux and take control of their digital lives.
