According to Meta's latest transparency report, the company received fewer data requests from Dutch authorities in 2023 compared to the previous year. The Dutch government submitted 1,250 data requests that affected approximately 2,000 user accounts. Additionally, 190 emergency requests were made, which are requests that do not require a legal process. Meta can decide voluntarily to share data if it believes there is an imminent threat to serious physical harm or death. In 84% of normal data requests, Meta chose to share data. This can include information such as names, email addresses, credit card details, transaction data, registration data, IP addresses, or content. In comparison, Meta received 1,112 data requests from the Dutch authorities in 2022, which affected 1,544 user accounts. The authorities also made 189 emergency requests. In 84% of these requests, Meta chose to share data. Globally, Meta received more data requests from governments in 2024 compared to 2023. India, the United States, Brazil, and Germany were among the countries that submitted the most data requests.
