Microsoft Simplifies Tool for Resolving Windows 11 Startup Issues

By Netvora Tech News

Microsoft has made it easier to use a tool that automatically resolves startup issues with Windows 11. Quick Machine Recovery (QMR) is part of the Windows Resiliency Initiative, which the company announced last year in response to the global CrowdStrike outage. When QMR is enabled, it can automatically detect common startup issues with Windows 11 devices and apply solutions from the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). This should reduce downtime and prevent manual intervention.

How QMR Works

When a critical startup issue occurs, the system starts WinRE, connects to the network, and sends diagnostic data to Microsoft. The company then rolls out a solution via Windows Update. Microsoft has now added a separate settings page for QMR in test versions of Windows 11. Users can enable or disable the tool, set it to automatically search for solutions, determine how often these checks occur, and specify whether the system should be restarted to apply found solutions.

Availability

The QMR page can be found in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.4230 and Preview Build 26200.5622.

  • QMR aims to reduce downtime and prevent manual intervention by automatically detecting and resolving common startup issues with Windows 11 devices.
  • The tool is part of the Windows Resiliency Initiative, which Microsoft announced last year in response to the global CrowdStrike outage.
By simplifying the use of QMR, Microsoft is making it easier for users to resolve startup issues with Windows 11, which should improve overall system reliability and reduce the need for manual intervention.
