Microsoft Targets Unified Update Experience for Windows and Third-Party Apps
By Netvora Tech News
Microsoft is working to revolutionize the way Windows updates its software and hardware, including third-party apps, with a new orchestration platform designed to streamline the process. The company aims to create a seamless, intelligent update experience that handles all updates – apps, drivers, and more – alongside Windows updates. "Updates within the Windows ecosystem can often feel fragmented," says Angie Chen, a Microsoft representative. "To address this, we're developing a vision for a uniform, intelligent update orchestration platform that can handle every update, from apps to drivers, alongside Windows updates." Currently, Windows Update installations focus on Microsoft products and hardware drivers. However, the new platform will support third-party software updates as well. Built on the Windows Update stack, the orchestration platform allows developers to onboard updates for their software using an API. This integration also enables the use of features like user activity tracking, battery status, update notifications, and installed update overviews, as well as support for admin policies. While a release date for this technology is unknown, developers can sign up for a "private preview" with Microsoft to participate in the testing phase. The goal is to create a single, intuitive platform that simplifies the update process for users and reduces the complexity of managing updates across multiple applications.
