Old ICT Systems at Dutch Prosecutor's Office to Take Years to Replace

The Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security has revealed that replacing the outdated ICT systems at the country's Public Prosecution Service (OM) will take years to complete. This announcement comes after a recent ICT outage at the OM, which left prosecutors and their staff unable to work and inaccessible to case files. In late March, the OM decided to take its systems offline, citing a "persistent disruption" rather than a security incident. According to Minister of Justice and Security, Van Weel, the ICT problem at the OM is a result of a long-standing delay in the development and professionalization of information services. This backlog will not be easily overcome. "The replacement of the systems will take years to complete," Van Weel emphasized. While the OM has made progress in recent times, which should help reduce the number of ICT disruptions, the issue remains a major concern. The Minister will seek advice from the Advisory College on ICT Testing to help guide the replacement process. The advisory report is expected to be published next year.
