Ransomware Group Claims Data Theft from US Hospitals
By Netvora Tech News
A group of criminals behind the Interlock ransomware has claimed responsibility for the attack on several US hospitals in May, claiming to have stolen 941 gigabytes of data. The hospitals affected are all part of the Kettering Health network.
The attack caused a "system-wide technology disruption," according to a statement on the healthcare provider's website. This meant that healthcare staff had no access to certain healthcare systems. In response, Kettering Health decided to cancel and reschedule an unspecified number of treatments.
Kettering Health Restores Access to Patient Records
Earlier this week, Kettering Health announced that it had regained access to electronic patient records. This has allowed the hospitals to update patient records and coordinate patient care more quickly and clearly, according to the statement. However, the recovery process is still ongoing.
Ransomware Group Reveals Data Theft
The Interlock group has now claimed responsibility for the attack on its own website, stating that 941GB of data was stolen. The criminals claim to have stolen more than 732,000 files, and have released some of the alleged stolen files publicly.
- The attack highlighted the importance of robust cybersecurity measures in the healthcare sector.
- Kettering Health's swift response to the attack minimized the impact on patient care.
- The Interlock group's claim to have stolen 941GB of data raises concerns about the scale and scope of the attack.
